Our History

Global Expeditions, Inc. is a family business that works with a small group of professionals who enjoy sharing their love and sense of adventure with our clients. We believe that wilderness and the solitude it offers is a sacred and nourishing necessity.

Global was created and grew out of a passion to enjoy the wilderness and to maintain the traditions of professional guiding in all environments. Our approach is one of educated respect, patience, awareness, and responsiveness to each unique setting. We are dedicated to enjoying the outdoors in a safe and responsible manner by combining our wealth of experience and seasoned knowledge to provide our guests with an experience dedicated to the discovery of their own personal dream of adventure and solitude.

Global Expeditions, Inc. is a privately owned Corporation that was founded in 1989 by its sole owners, Philip and Duran Atkins. Since its inception, we have pursued business opportunities in Consulting, Corporate Development, Research and Development, Risk Recreation Management, Adventure Travel, and Film and Photo Production.

We began with an Adventure Travel office in Moab, Utah. Some of our offerings included: Hut to Hut ski trips between three Yurts in the La Sal Mountains, a climbing school that led to peak ascents all over the world, white water rafting and kayaking, lessons for all, and equipment rentals.

We have worked on several projects for the Walt Disney Company both consulting on and developing their train program in the American Northwest.

Our film and photo work includes: a number of Cowboy shoots; Conquer the Arctic Competition, filmed 350 miles into the arctic circle and televised in the early 90's on ESPN 2 and its equivalent network in Europe; and, “To The Ends of the Earth” about Africa, on USA network in 1994. Our production services were used for many leading commercial and motion picture films, including City Slickers II and Geronimo. We have been able to stay at the forefront of these cutting edge projects in part because of our industry contacts and our dedication to excellence and professionalism.

In 1998, Global was hired by Abercrombie & Kent Ltd., who had been providing adventure holidays since 1961 in 40 international offices, and who at the time had the honor of being named the “World’s Best Tour Operator” by Travel & Leisure. Global Expeditions, Inc. had the privilege of creating one-of-a-kind, private vacations for A&K's elite clients needing security, privacy, and above all confidentiality. Philip was offered the position of Vice President, and later, President of Abercrombie & Kent American Adventures. Phil’s task was to create and develop new programs for North America as A&K moved into the new millennium. In 2003, the Global family returned to its roots and now are focusing our combined talents to providing Luxury Camping Adventures in some of the most spectacular and pristine areas in the American West.
